Marcus Borg, writes this about prayer… My understanding and practice of prayer are grounded in my understanding of God, the Sacred. I see God as a presence, as the one “in whom we live and move and have our being,” to quote words attributed to Paul in Acts 17.28. For me, prayer – addressing God, paying attention to my relationship with God – is about reminding me of the reality and...

“Balding, middle aged white men, tell us what to do with our bodies, while they wage wars and kill other peoples babies, so maybe, women deserve better than propaganda and lies, lies to get into panties, to get out of courts to get out of paying child support, get the fuck out of our decision, and give us back our voice, women do deserve better, women deserve choice.”

Paul mentions the word "hell".....never.
The dude that historically has had 13 letters attributed to his name. The author of more than 50% of the New Testament. One of the first church fathers, writers, pastors, poets, artists, leaders… never once ever mentions the word, Hell.

As a child you were taught to share, what happened? In a world where as adults we’ve been taught to take more than give, the church should be the cure.  But is it known more for its politics than its compassion? Is it the place we think of when we think of helping the less fortunate? If a neighborhood church ceased to exist, would the neighbors mourn its loss? There is a church that cares...

We love to glorify war in this country. We cheer and pontificate about our “cherished way of life” and “democracy” and “freedom” and all manner of other high sounding hyperbole in order to keep the guilt of causing so much carnage at bay. I really wonder if the wars we fight are really about any of those things. It’s a tough pill to swallow when you consider that no matter what the justification...

Creation is on a journey towards perfection rather than being returned to an original perfection. Creation, has a goal, an eschatological direction to become what God always intended it to become. Not merely a returning to something previous, but an intention to become something it has yet to be, something it never has been; something better. (Gregory of Nazianzus, Irenaeus, & Joe Haward)

To say that God is “loving and just” does not give you the justification for God being a divine child abusing asshole.  I’ll let you figure out what I mean.

We are wasting $700 million a day to pay for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, while our teachers, firefighters and police lose their jobs, while we slash basic assistance programs for the poor, children and the elderly, while we turn our backs on the some 3 million people being pushed from their homes by foreclosures and bank repossessions and while we do nothing to help the one in six American...
