If we had any possessions, we should need weapons and laws to defend them.
– St. Francis
Most good things have been said far to many times and just need to be lived.
– S. Claiborne
If you have not failed, you have not done anything yet.
What would happen if Christians devoted the same discipline and self-sacrifice...
I would argue that God blesses those who struggle to be faithful because they are diving so deep into the missional life that the brokenness of this world is spiritually, physically and mentally draining.
I don’t believe the church makes the kingdom happen. I do believe the church is called to present an embodied witness of what the kingdom might look like when people live according to the teachings of Jesus and the Apostles. I further believe that the Spirit of God is working throughout all the world to make living in this way possible. I believe Jesus meant it when he said “love your enemies.”

I don’t believe the United States is necessarily evil. I do believe that the violence inherent to the concept of a nation-state also applies to the US, and that the mythology of America, the benevolent land of freedom, exporter of democracy, and chosen nation of God needs to be deconstructed and shown for the satanic construction it really is. I don’t want to face this valley, I don’t want to walk alone
I’m begging You now to come
Heaviness is on my chest, but You say that You’ll lift this burden
I’m begging You to bring me rest
Come and find me in the darkest night of my soul, in the shadow of the valley
I am dyeing for You to make me whole
I can’t keep myself from sinking, from drowning down in all this shame
My throat is worn...

Is masturbating to false portrayals of human sexuality all you’ve got?
Is slaughtering millions in war all you’ve got?
Is the overwhelming infection of greed all you’ve got?
Is the murder of unborn babies all you’ve got?
Is the destruction of...
Christians: effed up hypocrites, enslaved by grace.
Leader: Entering as a King, new hopes given, a cleansed temple, the last meal, a servant’s touch by a master’s hand, confusion of many, betrayal by others, tried by some, denial of one, scourged for all, crucified for the creation to see.
All: Lord In Your Mercy
Leader: King of the Jews, a crown of thorns, shamed by a criminal’s execution, the revolution of love crushed by nail torn flesh, a...
Christ Crucified is all of the hidden, private, tragic pain of history made public and given over to God. Christ Resurrected is all of that private, ungrieved, unnoted suffering received, loved, and transformed by an All-Caring God. How else could we believe in God at all? How else could we have any kind of cosmic hope? How else would we not die of sadness for what humanity has done to itself...
Resurrection.
Liberal Orthodoxy.
Whatever deviates from your norm is liberal, anything that doesn’t, is considered conservative. This way of thinking says that being conservative is correct and anything else is wrong. To refer to someone as liberal is to say that they are wrong, because they deviate from your norm (norm, in the Christian context, is usually referred to as “Orthodox,” “Doctrine,” or “Truth”).
Therefore, a liberal...
Yes. Yes. Yes.
The journey, although sacred, is dark.
